Politics Always Bloody Politics

Well once again it has been a while since i posted anything on here and i would like to have a bit of a rant about politics. This has all been sparked by the upcoming general election in the UK.

I have come from a very conservative household and my parents have been very involved in politics for many years. This obviously will have influenced my political stance especially as i have been surrounded by Conservative politicians my whole life. Naturally I am a supporter of the Conservative Party for a number of reasons; i believe in pragmatic politics, i believe in taking responsibility for yourself and not expecting the state to provide for you, i believe that if you have earned your money you should keep it and that should be used as an incentive for others to work to achieve what they need to.

However i also believe in elements of social responsibility. I believe that people should look out for each other and act toward others in a way they would like to be treated but (and this is the important bit) i don't believe this should be enforced. I don't think that those who do well for themselves should be responsible for those who haven't.

I feel like we live in a world where people feel entitled to things rather than earn things and i believe this to be the fault of those on the Left. I think that if you give a little people will take a lot. Take the NHS for example. This is an organisation that was set up to allow those who could not afford health care to have access to it. Don't get me wrong the NHS is a wonderful thing but people take it for  granted and believe that the government should just throw money at it even though there are large areas where it is failing. These failings are not down to a lack of funding but down to bad money management and the fact that is does not run like a business should.

The Left will argue that we should be taking money away from private practices to fund the NHS. This for me is a complete misunderstanding of the issue also by upping the price of private care you make it harder for people to afford it. Surely by making it cheaper to access private care more people will use it taking some of the strain off the NHS? Or is this a typical Capitalist propaganda that i have swallowed without thinking about it?

If people were perfect i would agree with Left wing ideologies but that is the issue, people are not perfect and Left wing policies only work in a perfect world. Those on the left would then argue that should we not be striving for a perfect world and to lead by example? Maybe they are right but i feel that to achieve this we would have to take away the very essence of humanity and freedom. Not allowing people to think or have free will as they would constantly have to be perfect for the system to work. I also think that a lot of left wing ideology is based around an innate jealousy of those who have done better than them and the demonisation of those who have been fortunate enough to be born into a well off family.

Am i too Cynical or am i living in the real world? I don't know and the reality is no one really does. I will continue to follow these beliefs until i find another that makes more sense to me.
